“Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV) Living Faith Uniting Church is a community-based church that seeks to share God’s love with others. We believe that God meets us in our vulnerabilities and brokenness, and that as we surrender our lives to Him, He brings about healing and transformation in our lives and circumstances. Please feel free to join us as we journey through life together, helping each other to find purpose and meaning through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. There are various ways to connect with us. Feel free to visit us for our Sunday morning services at 8:30am. Our welcome team would love to introduce you to the minister, Rev Iris Marais and other members of our community. Alternatively, call our office if you would like to access pastoral care services or if you would like an appointment to see our minister. We hold various events and programs during the year. Please email [email protected] if you are interested in receiving our monthly newsletter which outlines all of our activities, programs and upcoming events. A BEAUTIFUL MEDITATION PIECE WRITTEN BY REV JENNY TYMMS
We read in the daily news that the “curve is flattening” and we overhear ourselves thinking how glad we are to be
living in Australia at this time, “despite everything”. Yet each night we see the statistics from around the world.
We know that behind these numbers and curves on the graph are countless individual stories of death, grief and
loss; stories of exhaustion and despair.
How can we savour, without a sense of guilt, the big and small joys that continue to unfold in our own daily lives
when we know that there are so many other people still suffering?
One way is to remember what “mercy” means. When we pray with the psalmist and in our Service of Communion,
“Lord, have mercy”, we are interceding for the whole, hurting world and not just for ourselves. Everyone is gathered
into the wide embrace and mutuality of this prayer.
Our prayer for mercy is our longing for love and forgiveness, for compassion and blessing. It is another word for the
God we have come to know in Christ. It has its earliest origins in the Etruscan merc and is linked to an understanding
of the deep value of mutual exchange. Our longing for mercy unites us with others and when we pray, “Have mercy
on us, O God”, we are praying for God’s compassionate, forgiving, all-embracing love and presence to be felt, not
only by us, but by those who are dying, anxious or in despair.
Yet “mercy” is also connected in its origins to the French word merci which means “thank you”. In the very same
breath and with the very same word, we turn to God with our grateful songs of thanks and praise for all that God has
done and continues to do for us. We need only to look at the Psalms to see how closely these two movements of
prayer are held together.
So, in this Easter season, let us pray “mercy”. Let us pray Merci. Two heart-felt prayers hand-in-hand.
And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.
This photo is of the Magdala Chapel in Israel situated on the shore of the Sea of Galilee. The views from the arched window of the water are breathtaking. Cast your eyes towards Galilee this week - the place where Jesus healed "all manner of sickness".

PALM SUNDAY IDEA
One of our church members has suggested a great idea for Palm Sunday, 5 April. If you have a palm tree in your yard, cut a frond or two and tie it to your fence or front door and leave it there all week. Take a picture and post it on your page. "Hosanna in the Highest!"

Dear Living Faith Uniting Church Family and Facebook Friends
We are all experiencing difficulties as we adjust to a constantly changing world. Many of us may be feeling a loss of control, shock or disbelief as we face a new way of living in this season. We are all being impacted to some extent by an external situation that seemed to come upon us rather unexpectedly.
The good news is this – God foreknew what would happen on Earth before the onslaught of Covid-19 came. He remains sovereign throughout our “self-isolating journey” and above all, He has promised that He will never leave us nor forsake us. As we spend time on our own, keep in mind God’s Holy Spirit is closer than our own breath. Make a habit of literally breathing in deeply each morning, imagining the Holy Spirit filling you, and then exhaling fear or anxiety. Jesus is a soothing balm for any emotional wounds that manifest during this time.
Please stay in touch with either myself or other friends within or outside of the congregation via phone or email. As we have been learning over the last month, we are “Better Together” when we support and encourage each other, even from a distance.
As part of the process of us staying connected during this season, we have been moving our Sunday service to an online experience. We would love you to join us each week in this innovative way of doing church. Sermons will be posted onto our page each Saturday but are also accessible via our church website by clicking on the the "Online Ministry" tab.
Just before I sign off, the photo below is of a beautiful doorway that I saw on Mount Tabor, the Mount of Transfiguration, when I was in Israel last year. Jesus underwent a stark change in his appearance on the Mount of Transfiguration so that the disciples could experience Him in His splendour and glory. As we experience a dramatic change in the way church is done, let us expect Jesus to reveal Himself anew to us, for we too are His disciples.

Important Update COVID - 19
MESSAGE FROM LIVING FAITH UC CHAIRPERSON
Dearest members and friends of Living Faith Uniting Church
We are writing to update you on the COVID-19 situation and its impact on our church.
You will find attached a letter sent by the Queensland Moderator, Rev David Baker, to all Uniting Church congregations in Queensland. The Moderator has advised that all Uniting Church public worship services will cease, effective immediately. Speaking on behalf of the Living Faith Uniting Church council, we endorse this decision of Synod which is consistent with Government and public health policy; and with Scripture, which calls for us to care for our neighbour in love and with concern for their well-being.
In light of this, we are also suspending all meetings or ministries in the church building for the time being.
This is not a decision to “stop church.” Rather, it is a decision to “transform church” i.e. going beyond the walls of our church building on a Sunday morning. We have an incredible message of hope, love and peace for a world in desperate need.
We will be identifying new ways in which we can maintain and grow a very active ministry, discipleship and pastoral care program to support both the Living Faith congregation and the wider community. As a first step, Iris’s sermons will be available online via You Tube. This provides a wonderful opportunity to repeatedly listen to the sermons and to spread them far and wide to family, friends and even the broader community! Click on the link below to access the sermon for this Sunday, 22 March 2020.
22 March Better Together Message

Response to COVID – 19
As a church we are taking a very responsible approach to the impact COVID-19 is having across the world. We are all vulnerable to this illness, none of us are immune to getting it. As a church we want to play our part in assisting the government and health care system by doing all we can to avoid the spread of the disease. In light of this, we would like to ask you to do the following:
1. Upon entering the auditorium, please wipe your hands clean by using a hand wipe which are available at the door. In the coming weeks we will have hand sanitiser.
2. If you are sick with any symptoms of Coronavirus, please withdraw from coming to church until you are well.
3. Please avoid physical contact in the form of hugging or shaking hands with each other.
4. Please wear gloves when counting or handling money.
5. Morning tea will be served to you, please don’t handle food directly.
Let us go with the flow as we progress through this situation. We will take all the precautions that we can and deal with the changes as they come up. We continue to monitor the situation and will continue to follow government guidelines and advise.
Most importantly, God is with us. We continue to pray for God’s protection over our congregation and community. We therefore proceed without fear but place our faith in God and trust Him throughout the process.
Thank you for your participation in these guidelines.
Join us tomorrow as we explore some elements of building Godly relationships - there is no doubt God will touch all our hearts!
