Stateless and the inhumanity of detention

A very good Drama based on true stories. It may be disturbing but it highlights what used to happen in our name (NOTE what's happening now is worse!!) Take time to watch it live or on ABC's iview. https://www.eurekastreet.com.au/article/stateless-and-the-inhumanity-of-detention?utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Eureka%20Street%20Daily%20-%20Thursday%2019%20March%202020&utm_content=Eureka%20Street%20Daily%20-%20Thursday%2019%20March%202020+CID_7b41ddcd1d1ac334c82c2375cfe4f20d&utm_source=Jescom%20Newsletters&utm_term=READ%20MORE

Corvid-19 - more changes at church. To help protect the vulnerable and elderly in our country by limiting the spread of the virus, another change to procedures has been proposed. As of this weekend, we ask you to deposit your Envelopes and Cash donations into the Baskets at the doors of the church before and after Mass. (Passing the plate around is a possible avenue for the virus to spread as it stays on hard surfaces for anything up to a week or 9 days)

Issues Discernment Assembly March 2020

Dear All
As you know, the Archdiocese is a founding member of the Queensland Community Alliance.

Next Wednesday, members from the Alliance’s partner organisations will come together to decide which issues will be the focus for our campaigns for the next 3 years (including the October State election).

Four issues will be considered for the Alliance’s next campaign cycle:
• Addressing wage theft through exploring a Living Wage for Qld.
• Training cultural and ethnic community leaders in leadership and workplace rights.
• Acting for a just transition that addresses climate change and provides real jobs for our community.
• Addressing safe and connected communities through increasing community development funding and a social isolation inquiry.

Besides deciding what our priorities are, we will form action teams to develop campaigns for the prioritised issues.

If you want to be part of the discernment and if you want to get involved in the teams which will organise our campaigns for these important issues, please come along.

The Assembly will be held at the Coorparoo Secondary College, cnr Stanley St & Cavendish Rd, Coorparoo, next Wednesday 11 March from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Light refreshments will be available on the night.

It is essential that you RSVP. Here is the link to register for the Discernment Assembly:

Advice for public

Update on Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) and Celebrating Mass together:
There has been a lot of discussion in the media about the COVID-19 virus, and it’s understandable that many people feel concerned. At this stage it’s important to remember that public health advice has not recommended any major changes to the way we live our lives.
Unless otherwise advised, masses and other gatherings are expected to continue as normal, however all parishioners and visitors are encouraged to observe a high level of understanding for one another including not attending if feeling unwell and not feeling offended if others do not wish to make physical contact such as shaking hands.

The COVID-19 novel coronavirus is a new strain of coronavirus affecting humans. Click here to view FAQ Sheet from Queensland Health.
From previous experience with other coronavirus those most at risk are:

Lent enables us to see, touch with faith the flesh of Christ in those who suffer

Lent: https://international.la-croix.com/news/lent-enables-us-to-see-touch-with-faith-the-flesh-of-christ-in-those-who-suffer/11877?utm_source=Newsletter
n his Message for Lent 2020, Pope Francis points to the paschal mystery – the mystery of Jesus' Passion, Death, and Resurrection – as the basis of conversion.
The message bears the title "We implore you on behalf of Christ: be reconciled to God", a quote from St. Paul's Second Letter to the Corinthians.
"This kerygma [fundamental proclamation of the Gospel message] sums up the mystery of a love 'so real, so true, so concrete, that it invites us to a relationship of openness and fruitful dialogue' (Christus vivit, 117)", the pope writes.
"Whoever believes this message rejects the lie that our life is ours to do as we will," he says.
Francis invites the faithful to fix their eyes during the 40-day season of Lent on the crucified Lord and allow themselves "to be saved over and over again".
"Jesus' Pasch is not a past event; rather, through the power of the Holy Spirit it is ever present, enabling us to see and touch with faith the flesh of Christ in those who suffer," the pope writes.
He emphasizes the importance of prayer during Lent, as a means of responding to God's love, "which always precedes and sustains us".
Christians are also called to hear and respond to the Word of Jesus, in order to experience "the mercy He freely gives us", Francis continues.
God is always engaged in a "dialogue of salvation with us", despite our weaknesses and failings, he says.
This desire to save us "led the Father to burden His Son with the weight of our sins, thus, in the expression of Pope Benedict XVI, 'turning of God against Himself' (Deus caritas est, 12)", Francis writes.
"Putting the paschal mystery at the centre of our lives means feeling compassion towards the wounds of the crucified Christ present in the many innocent victims of wars, in attacks on life, from that of the unborn to that of the elderly, and various forms of violence," he says.
This means being personally committed to and involved in "the building of a better world".
Lent begins on Ash Wednesday (Feb. 26). It continues until the Sacred Triduum (April 9-11). Easter Sunday is on April 12.
