City North Baptist Church

City North Baptist Church, a local church in Kedron all about spreading the message of Jesus Christ

The Book of Acts records for us Jesus’ continued activity in the world after his resurrection and ascension. He is advancing his kingdom through the Spirit-empowered witness of his people as they proclaim the gospel to the world. The various speeches in the book of Acts are an inspiring record of this gospel proclamation, and we will be looking at eight of these speeches in the coming weeks.

Given at significant points in the narrative, these speeches give us a sense of the book as a whole. They also encourage us about the necessity and sufficiency of the gospel, and God’s constant priority to save people.

Hope you can join in with our online service this Sunday!

A reminder that this Sunday we will share in communion together as part of our service. If you would like to participate please make sure you have the elements prepared before you join us on Sunday.

[03/18/20]   || Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update (18th March 2020) ||

Dear City North family,

By now, you are likely aware that the Prime Minister today announced further restrictions on social gatherings which included a ban on indoor gatherings of more than 100 people. This ban is effective immediately and could last for several months. We understand that these restrictions are designed to limit the spread of the Coronavirus and protect the most vulnerable members of our community.

| What does this mean for City North? |

• Both our on-site Sunday services including Kids Church, Jnr Kids Church, Nursery and Teenchurch will be cancelled until further notice.

• Other ministries are being reviewed on a case-by-case basis. If you are involved in those ministries you will receive further information from the respective leader of that ministry.

• The church leadership are working on a plan to move some aspects of our services “online”, including a new weekly message, beginning this weekend. We’re expecting that the City North family will be gathered in many and various ways across our city this Sunday to hear God’s word taught, pray and sing together. An additional email will be sent on Friday 20th March, explaining how this will work. Stay tuned!

| How can I stay in touch? |

We will be using the channels of email, Facebook and the church website to communicate with the church in the coming months. If you know of someone who does not receive this email, please let Bronwyn Burgess, our Church Administrator know ([email protected]). You can also “Like” our church page to receive regular updates.

| What if I need help? |

We want to do our best to care for one another during this time by providing prayer, pastoral care and practical support. Please let us know if you, or anyone else you know becomes unwell, is self-isolating by choice or necessity, or is experiencing food shortages or financial hardship. You can do this by contacting one of the pastors directly, messaging the church here on Facebook, or sending an email to [email protected].

Please keep the church leaders in your prayers as they seek to discern a way forward in this difficult time and implement the necessary changes.

[03/14/20]   || Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update ||

Dear City North family,

The church leadership is aware of the current advice from government authorities and will continue to stay updated and be prepared to make changes, if necessary, over the coming weeks. Any changes will be motivated by a desire to do what is best for our wider community and will be communicated via email, Facebook and the church website.

For the moment, both our Sunday services and regular weekly ministries will continue as usual.

We are receiving regular advice from Queensland Baptists about to how to apply the directives of health authorities in our local church context. The following points should be noted:

1. If you are unwell, or if you have been in contact with anyone who has tested positive to COVID-19, we encourage you to not attend services.

2. Adopt sensible hygienic measures when at church or church gatherings, for example:
- Cover your cough or sneeze
- Dispose of tissues
- Wash your hands after using tissues, contact with nose or mouth etc.
- Use hand sanitiser – this will be made available prior to entering the services, as children enter their ministries, and at morning tea.
- Try to avoid physical contact through kissing, hugging, handshakes etc.

3. Please let us know (via office phone/email) if you are diagnosed with or become aware that you may have been exposed to COVID-19.

4. If anyone (elderly, those with poor health etc.) feels the need to isolate themselves temporarily, please let one of the pastors know. We would love to be in touch, to provide encouragement and prayer support.

Above all, please keep this matter in your prayers. While we recognise the seriousness of this matter and must be wise in taking necessary precautions, we also remember that we need not be afraid. We serve a God who is Sovereign over all things. Nothing can separate us from His love (Rom. 8:38-39). At times like this He calls us to renew our trust in Him and our dependence on Him in prayer. As we do so, we bear witness to the watching world that in Christ, we have eternal hope and a peace that transcends all understanding (Phil 4:6-7).

|| New PM Series - 1 Thessalonians ||

Faith, love and hope are three distinctive marks of the church. More than inner virtues, they express themselves practically in the lives of Christians. Faith produces good works. Love sacrifices for others. Hope produces endurance as we wait for the return of Christ.
The Thessalonians were an ordinary church, just like us. They had their share of problems and faced great hostility. But despite all this, Paul can write to celebrate that they were continuing in faith, love and hope. His letter is immensely practical, challenging churches just like us to continue in these things.

We’re looking forward to digging into 1 Thessalonians over the next two months at our PM service. See you there!

Join us this Sunday night at 6pm for our first BAPTISM SERVICE for the year!

Questions about the second-coming of Jesus, heaven, hell, the judgement, what happens when we die, eternal life, how the world will end etc. are always in the backs of our minds. Most of us have a patchy understanding but with plenty of gaps. And even fellow Christians hold differing and sometimes strong opinions about these topics. But while the Bible doesn’t tell us everything about the future, it does tell us a lot. In this series we will look at some of these key teachings to increase our confidence in Christ as we consider our own mortality and get a glimpse of God’s bigger plans for the end times and beyond.

Join us on Sunday 9th Feb for the first families playdate for 2020!

We'll be heading to Grinstead Park following the morning service for a BYO picnic and play.

Kids Ministries commence for the year on Sunday morning!

There is a program for all ages from 1 year olds through to school Year 6!

If you haven't already returned your completed Under 18's forms please ensure you do that before your child can participate in the programs.

The story of Jonah calls us to immerse ourselves in the mercy of God. As Jonah’s hypocrisy and lack of compassion are exposed, the truth about God is revealed. He truly is “a gracious and compassionate God” to Nineveh but also, as it turns out, to Jonah. The rebellious prophet needs God’s mercy just as much as the wicked Ninevites!

And so too do we. Jonah calls us to look to the cross of Christ, where we will discover the depths of God’s mercy for ourselves. It exposes our own hypocrisy and lack of compassion. And it compels us to proclaim the message of God’s mercy to all who will listen.

Join us this Sunday evening as we kick off this new series in Jonah!
