A thought for Monday

As the light at the end of the tunnel grows stronger and we look ahead to being together once more in worship and fellowship, we offer to God our prayers of praise and thanksgiving and ask for God's guidance into our future.

[06/01/20]   Once upon a time..
There was an island where all feelings lived:
Happiness, Sadness, Vanity, Knowledge, Richness, and Love...
Theirs was a contented existence until one day to everyone’s dismay it was discovered that the island was sinking. Everyone was told they must leave.. So the feelings all prepared their boats and started leaving their beloved island..
Love was the only one that stayed, behind. Love so cared for the island home that he wanted to stay until they were sure that the island was really sinking..
When Love realized that the island was really sinking,
he decided to ask for help..
Richness was passing by Love in a beautiful boat. Love said, “Richness, can you take me with you?” Richness answered,”No, I can’t. There are a lot of gold and silver in my boat. There is no room in here for you.”
Love decided to ask Vanity who was passing by, “ Vanity, please help me!” “ I can’t help you Love. You are all wet and will damage my boat,” Vanity answered.
Sadness was close by so Love asked for help, “Sadness, let me go with you.” “ Oh...Love, I am so sad that I can’t help anyone. I prefer to be alone!”
Happiness passed Love too. She was too happy to notice when Love called her!
Suddenly, there was a voice, “ Come Love, I will take you.” It was an elderly man.
Love became very happy that he even forgot to ask the name of the elder. When they arrived to safe grounds, Love asked Knowledge who was the elderly man.
“It was time.” “Time? But why did Time help me?”
“Because only Time is capable of understanding such a great Love.”
Remember that when things may look the bleakest, and when all appears abandon, Time is capable of solving anything.
Things may not have a solution today, but tomorrow you may find one...

Ou prayer this Sunday ...

As we enter this week, remember this ...

"The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly..." LAMENTATIONS 3:25, 26a (NIV)

When through the woods and forest glades I wander,
I hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees, when I look down
from lofty mountain grandeur and hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze,
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art! How great Thou art!
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art! How great Thou art!

Thank you for the world so sweet ... Amen

As we continue through this period, it's important to keep in contact with each other and remember this:

A prayer for this Sunday morning and for the week ...

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them."

This Sunday we turn to Psalm 23 and we remember:

Thursday's thought is one we need at the moment as we cope with this world wide pandemic and all the suffering and pain attached to it.

Let us be united in prayer for one another, those we hold dearly, those on the front line, those who have suffered loss and those ill with COVID19. Let us be united in prayer for our global community in great loss and pain at this time. Let us pray for healing at every level of our society, our Mother Earth. Let us be in prayer for ourselves that we may be strong in faith and solidarity with each other.

HE IS RISEN!!!! The Message for our world in the midst of this dark time. 'Christ the Lord is Risen today!" Our hearts overflow with JOY!

"On a hill far away, stood an old rugged cross, the emblem of suffering and shame. And I love that old cross where the dearest and best for a world of lost sinners was slain.""
Was ever such love shown to humankind? May we be as extravagant in our love for one another. Give us the will to be the servant of others, as you, who gave up your life and died for us, was the servant of all.

Today is Maundy/Holy Thursday. Maundy comes from the Latin word mandatum, or commandment, reflecting Jesus' words "I give you a new commandment that you love one another as I have loved you". Its importance is focused on Jesus and washing of his disciples' feet and the Last Supper before Jesus goes to the Mount of Olives for prayer where he is then arrested and brought to trial.

Monday meditation ... Lamentations 3:22-23

Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning, great is your faithfulness.

This photo is just a little different but has a wealth of meaning. Appreciate it within the context of Psalm 139.

Psalm 139

1 You have searched me, Lord,
and you know me.
2 You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.

Read the whole Psalm and be blessed. The Psalms are the prayers and hymns of the people who too experienced times of crisis and suffering.

A Friday moment ...a thought to ponder

Uniting Mission and Education (UME) ...

Tonight, take a moment to read this calming prayer by Brian McLaren, titled, 'For Your Quarantine Safety':

“Spirit of Wisdom, Truth, and Peace, guide us through this difficult time, and help us to resist the temptation to dream nostalgically of the old normal we have lost.

Instead, help us lean forward toward a new normal, a wiser and better way of life that is more in harmony with your love for all people and for all creation.

Help us better understand and value our interconnectedness on this beautiful, fragile planet. Empower all who serve the common good, encourage all who suffer, and expose all who mislead, whether through ignorance, greed, fear, or malice.

Give birth to a new generation of moral leaders around the world, moral leaders who are guided by a just vision for the future rather than limited habits of the past … in our families and faith communities, in our cities and states and nations, and around this interconnected world, for the good of all.”

Remember this as we enter another week of social distancing etc.
