My name is Cláudio Carvalho. I am Brazilian man and I get along with the wonderful and blessed Father Paulo Mahony, when he lived here in Brazil. I really need to get in touch with him. But, I lost his current address, because he is on a sabatic year. My email is [email protected]. I am grateful to anyone who can help me find this Man of God, a friend that only the Divine Blessing can justify that we find in this world. In the Peace of Christ.

The recent archdiocesan Multicultural Mass held at the Cathedral of St Stephen in Brisbane on 26 August combines Pope Francis’ Message for the 104th World Day of Migrants and Refugees -- 'Welcoming, Protecting, Promoting and Integrating Migrants and Refugees' and the Year of Youth. The Multicultural Mass Youth Choir was specially formed this year to sing the Year of Youth song titled ‘Called’ by singer-songwriter Stephanie Unger.

The Statement highlights the experience of First Nations people and communities, asylum seekers and refugees, people who are homeless and those who are in prison.

The Social Justice Statement for 2020-2021, Live Life to the Full: Mental health in Australia today looks at the negative stereotyping of mental illness, "The stigma associated with mental ill-health can be as debilitating as the symptoms of the illness. Negative stereotyping of mental illness can have a huge impact socially. People are often avoided, excluded or experience dismissive treatment at community gatherings. Meanwhile, in the workplace people with mental ill-health can be judged incompetent and denied opportunities for advancement." (p7)

The way you treat people can have a massive impact on the way they see themselves. How can you be an advocate and a positive presence in the life of those suffering from mental ill-health?

There are about 7,000 languages spoken around the world -- and they all have different sounds, vocabularies and structures. But do they shape the way we think? Cognitive scientist Lera Boroditsky shares her knowledge in Ted Talk: "The beauty of linguistic diversity is that it reveals to us just how ingenious and how flexible the human mind is. Human minds have invented not one cognitive universe, but 7,000."

A fire that destroyed a pub and backpacker hostel in Bundaberg on 20 July destroyed the possessions of hostel occupants including seasonal workers from Vanuatu and Timor Leste. For the East Timorese seasonal workers at least, help came in cash and kind from the generous Timorese families and friends in Brisbane, Ipswich, Gold Coast and Caboolture. A group travelled to Bundaberg last Saturday, 1 August, to personally hand their donations to the seasonal workers. [Info and photo credits: Lita from the Timorese Family Queensland].

Refugees will see their unemployment rate spike from 20pc to 42pc, but they aren't getting government support

The Refugee Council of Australia (RCOA) recently released a new report examining the cost of not supporting people seeking asylum and refugees during the Covid-19 pandemic. The research released today indicates that excluding refugees and people seeking asylum from financial support could cost taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars and exacerbate the nation’s health and homelessness crises.
The ABC recently ran an extensive piece on the report.
