Throughout the nation’s military history, there have been chaplains who, with a kind word here and there (and indefagitable resourcefulness), have inspired and uplifted the spirits of those who must go in danger’s way. It seems to me it is high time this devotion to duty is properly and prominently acknowledged. What say you? #AnzacDayPrecinct #garlandmemorial

Sunday Devotion: 19 September 2021, Seventeenth Sunday after Pentecost God is our helper

[09/15/21]   Here are the lyrics from the beautiful hymn sung by the choir at morning prayer on Thursday, to remember Ethel Mary Light, whose ashes are interred near the chapel.

Thy Will be Done

My God and Father, day by day,
Far from my home in life’s rough way,
Oh, teach me from my heart to say,
“Thy will be done.”

Though dark my path and sad my lot,
Let me be still and murmur not,
Or breathe the prayer divinely taught,
“Thy will be done.”

What though in lonely grief I sigh
For friends belov’d, no longer nigh,
Submissive still would I reply,
“Thy will be done.”

If Thou shouldst call me to resign
What most I prize, it ne’er was mine;
I only yield Thee what was Thine;
“Thy will be done.”

Renew my will from day to day,
Blend it with Thine, and take away
All that now makes it hard to say,
“Thy will be done.”

Let but my fainting heart be blest
With Thy sweet Spirit for its guest,
My God, to Thee I leave the rest:
“Thy will be done.”

- lyrics by Charlotte Elliot, 1789-1871, published 1834
