A sending
In the strength of God the maker
we are going on a journey.
In the friendship of Jesus
we are going on a journey.
In the safeguarding of the Holy Spirit
we are going on a journey.
A star is shining.
Angels are busy.
Mary is pregnant.
Joseph is packing.
Advent is coming.
It’s time to go.
May God bless us with hope and wonder as we travel.
Amen

Meditation is not an end in itself, at least not as I understand it. Instead, it’s meant to take us back into our lives—and the life of the world—with more clarity, compassion, and courage.

Here’s Mary Oliver making the link between meditation and action in the most gentle way. Then, once she’s drawn us in, she drops the hammer: “Be ignited, or be gone”!

There’s a message here for me and all who care about what’s going down in the U.S.A., where the daily headlines are about violations of love, truth, and justice.

MEMO TO SELF: Meditate on what those values mean in action for you. Then get off your cushion and do something life-giving for yourself and the common good. (Fact Check: I no longer sit on a cushion when I meditate—if I did, I couldn’t get up!)

[10/21/21]   Applications closing on 5th November - if you're keen, get in quick!
A great opportunity to come and be part of a fantastic team!
If you're great with databases, computers, admin and communication, then we just might be looking for you!

“Let’s begin to dream of a new normal, one that addresses the weaknesses and problems that were going unaddressed in the old normal. If we’re wise, we won’t go back; we’ll go forward.” —Brian McLaren

Brian reminds us that we’re not alone. We’re not alone in our doubts—in our fears—or in our triumphs. His newest book, “Faith After Doubt,” reminds us that in the so-called flaws in ourselves and in our faith is where we find the deepest connection with God and universal consciousness.

A former evangelical pastor, Brian is a champion for a more loving, inclusive, and contemplative Christianity. This September at the final CONSPIRE, Brian invites us to explore the myriad ways in which our lives are already a reflection of God’s Great Story.

Experience Brian’s teaching here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wp5jBIaiJ8&ab_channel=CenterforActionandContemplation

In her podcast “Love. Period,” final Conspire presenter Rev. Dr. Jacqui Lewis talks about discovering a deeper understanding of “love thy neighbor” during research for her forthcoming book “Fierce Love.” “Maybe the problem is we ARE loving our neighbors as ourselves,” Rev. Jacqui says, “which is to say we don’t love ourselves.”

Rev. Jacqui’s years of ministry and listening to people’s life journeys have informed her books such as “The Power of Stories: A Guide for Leaders in Multi-Racial, Multi-Cultural Congregations,” and her newest book, “Fierce Love,” out November 2021.

Love is at the heart of restoration, as. Rev. Jacqui reminds us. Love is the thread that connects our story to God’s Great Story. As a presenter in the final CONSPIRE conference in September, Rev. Jacqui invites us to come home to ourselves—and divine love.

Listen to Rev. Jacqui in “Love. Period,” where she talks with artists, activists, and faith leaders, about the transformative potential—and urgent need—for radical love in our times. https://cac.org/podcast/love-period/

Rev Charissa Suli has joyfully been declared President-elect of the Uniting Church in Australia. Charissa is the youngest person and the first woman of colour to serve as President-elect, and the second ordained woman.

In her response to the announcement Charissa said:
"This is truly an historic moment for the Church. This is ground-breaking that you call a Second Generation Tongan, still in her thirties. Today we move forward because of you all.

I am conscious of people, both known and unknown, who have prayed, sacrificed and struggled for this moment. But let us celebrate it and give thanks for what God has done and continues to do through your witness to Christ’s radical hospitality."

She will serve the Church as President 2024-2027.
